Urban Combat Training for the Iraqi Army. The Iraqi Army's 53rd Brigade attended urban operations training with Task Group Taji at the Taji Military Complex NW of Baghdad. The course was designed to enhance infantry minor tactics and develop leadership skills within an urban combat environment. Defence Force personnel from Australia and New Zealand are training members of the Iraqi Security Forces to defeat the Daesh terrorist group. They are deployed on active service to Iraq as part of Task Group Taji 5. The training includes: the laws of armed conflict, weapons handling, first aid, vehicle checkpoints, explosive hazards awareness, building clearances and obstacle breaching techniques. Instruction is inclusive of tactics, techniques and procedures from squad through to company-level operations for use in the fight against Daesh.
