Afghan Army Academy achieves Milestone Graduation (1.22 mins)

The Afghan National Army Officer Academy completed a historic graduation on 23 November, graduating its 100th female cadet as part of a graduating class of 345 cadets. It was the 10th graduation held at the academy and featured 319 male and 26 female graduates. More than 3000 cadets have now graduated since the first cadets were admitted in October 2013. The academy, located near Kabul, trains Afghan Army officers for service in the Army and security forces. Training is conducted by Afghan officers, with assistance from Australian, British, New Zealand and Danish mentors. The Australian Defence Force’s commitment to Afghanistan is known as Operation Highroad and is filled by personnel serving with Task Group Afghanistan. Since January 2014, the Afghan security forces have taken the lead for the defence of their own country. Australia supports these efforts through the NATO-led train, advise and assist mission called Resolute Support. Around 270 ADF members from the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army, the Royal Australian Air Force and Defence civilians are deployed in Afghanistan as part of Operation Highroad.
