Minister for Defence, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, travelled to the Middle East on 15-18 January to spend time with Australian troops and meet world leaders in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq and Lebanon. During the visit to the Taji Military Complex in Iraq, Minister Pyne thanked Australian Defence Force personnel for their courage and sacrifice in support of Australia’s security. Minister Pyne also visited Australia’s Special Operations Task Group 632, which has played a critical role in frontline offensive operations against Daesh, contributing to the successful operations to liberate Mosul, Bayji and Fallujah. While in Iraq, Minister Pyne met the country’s Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and the Commander of Operation Inherent Resolve, Lieutenant General Paul LaCamera of the United States Army.
